Cross Country


Section A - Date

The Region 19 Cross Country Championships each year may be held the week before the District meet and/or two weeks prior to the NJCAA Championship. The meet will be conducted regardless of the weather conditions and at a time determined by the host college.

  1. Coaches meeting to be held one hour prior to the start of the race.
  2. Women's race to be run first on even numbered years.
  3. Men's race to be run first on odd number of years.

Section B - Site
  1. Men's distance - five miles or metric equivalent.
  2. Women's distance - 5000 meters.
  3. Factors to be considered when awarding site:
      a. A course that has a variety of terrain.
      b. A course that can handle a large number of participants.
      c. A course where runners will not be in danger of automobile traffic.


Section C - Eligibility
Current NJCAA Rules will apply.


Section D - Officials
  1. Officials will be selected by the host college.
  2. There should be the following officials:
      a. Starter
      b. Clerk of Course
      c. Official Scorer
      d. Referee
  3. In addition, an adequate number of timers, recorders and course inspectors and people to work the chute are necessary.


Section E - Entry Fee
  1. The fee shall be determined by dividing the expenses by the number of participants entered.
  2. Entries received after the deadline set up by the host college will not be allowed to participate in the meet.


Section F - Rules and Scoring
  1. Unlimited entries will be accepted, however, a maximum of twelve (12) runners per college will be permitted to enter the race.
  2. The first five (5) runners of each team will count towards the team championships. In case of a tie the NCAA rules will apply to both men and women.
  3. The displacement methods of scoring will be used for team's 6th and 7th place finishers.
  4. Individual entrants and less than five finishing per college will not be scored in the team championships.


Section G - Individual Entry
  1. The college must have (5) runners finish to be eligible for the team trophy. However, individual entries are encouraged.


Section H - Awards
  1. Team awards will be given according to the following formula regardless of division:
    1 - 3 teams - one award
    4 - 7 teams - two awards
    Over 8 teams - three awards
  2. All Region certificates designated "First Team" will be awarded to the first seven (7) finishers. 
  3. Individual medals will be awarded to the top seven (7) finishers.


Section I- Ejection Policy
  1. An athlete in any contest involving a Region XIX College who is ejected for violent conduct or fighting shall not be allowed to participate in the next played contest as determined by the schedule of that institution. If this ejection occurs in the last contest of a given season, the suspension shall be in effect the first regular game of the player's next season.
