NJCAA Region XIX Men’s Lacrosse Code (Adopted 2/26/09) Section A – Dates and Sites The Region XIX Lacrosse Tournament will be held during the last weekend in April. Adjustments will be made to this schedule when District Playoffs necessitate. The Tournament site will be at the highest seeded team in the region as determined by head-to head play. In the event there is a tie, overall winning % will be the determining factor. In the event the #1 seed cannot or does not wish to host the tournament, the #2 seed shall be the host site. (*In order to facilitate things for 2009, Williamson has been assigned as the tournament host for this Spring) Section B – Eligibility and Format 1. All teams wishing to participate in the tournament must schedule 1 regular season game with every other Region XIX varsity program. All regional games must be played. In the event a game is postponed, it should be rescheduled on a mutually agreeable date. In the event no such date exists, the game must be rescheduled at the next available date when both teams do not have a region game scheduled. This includes canceling or rescheduling a non-regional contest to allow a regional game to be played. Failure by one team to adhere to this rule will count as a forfeit for seeding purposes. The region team that was willing to play on this date receives a win for seeding purposes. In the event all avenues have been pursued to the satisfaction of the region director, a “no contest” shall be declared. 2. Any college fielding a team must follow all NJCAA, NCAA, and Region XIX regulations specifically including (but not limited to) that you must file the proper NJCAA Eligibility forms or NJCAA Club Team form, pay region dues, report game results to the service bureau (should there be one), adhere to uniform rules as per the sport operating code, follow ejection policies for coaches and players, as well as reporting of these ejections, follow the home game supervision requirements, and use game officials under contracted officiating agreements, should there be one with Region XIX. All teams shall use certified NCAA officials for all Region and District games. 4. Region XIX will follow the rules of the NCAA/NJCAA unless otherwise indicated. 5. Any team that drops their program after the start of the season will have those game results, including regional, that were played to that point count on overall records only. 6. The Region XIX tournament shall be a single elimination tournament. The winner of the tournament has the right to advance to the District play-offs, should they so choose. In the event they choose not to attend, the runner-up will be given the chance to attend in their place. 7. All tournament games shall follow NCAA rules. 8. In the event weather causes a delay to a game in progress, the game shall be resumed at the exact point it was delayed. Section C – Tournament Rules and Regulations: 1. Officials for all tournament games shall be assigned by the Tournament Chairperson through their regional assignor. Three officials shall be assigned to each tournament game. If less than three officials arrive for a game, the game will be played with the officials who are available. 2. The host college will provide the official scorer for the tournament. 3. NCAA rules will be in effect for each game during the tournament. 4. The host college will provide dressing room facilities. Lodging and meals are the responsibility of each participating school. 5. The higher seed team in each game is considered the home team and shall wear their “light” jerseys Section D - Entry Fee The host school will pay for the officials and any other additional expenses upfront. The overall costs determined after the tournament has concluded will be split among the participating schools. The host team will bill each participating school for those costs. Payment from all participating schools to the host school should be made in an expedited manner once those schools have been billed. Section E - Awards 1. The tournament host shall provide: a) A championship trophy/plaque b) A runner-up trophy/plaque c) A tournament MVP trophy/plaque 2. The MVP award shall be chosen by the participating coaches and the Tournament Director 3. The coach of the winning team will be named Region XIX Coach of the Year and receive an appropriate certificate from the Region. 4. The All Region team for 4 teams or less shall be chosen as follows: a) The championship team shall have 4 players on the All Region team. b) The runner-up team shall have 3 players on the All Region team. c) The 3rd and 4th place teams shall have 2 players each on the All Region team. 5. In the event more than 4 teams are participating in lacrosse in Region XIX, a balloting system will be implemented to be decided upon by the Region XIX lacrosse committee with input from the coaches. Section F - Ejection: All NCAA rules shall apply for cases of ejections of both players and coaches. In the event a coach is ejected from a game and there is no college approved representative designated by the Athletic Director present, the game is terminated and forfeited at that point. Section G - Open Wound Statement: All NCAA lacrosse rules are in effect which, in cases when consistent or profuse bleeding occurs, include the immediate removal of the player by the coach or official. That player may not return to action again until the bleeding has stopped. Section H - Tobacco Use/Abuse The use of all tobacco products by any coach, player, official, or other individual involved in the conducting of any NJCAA sponsored regular season or post season play is prohibited within the confines of the playing area. Any individual not in compliance shall be disqualified from further participation in the contest. As a reminder, NJCAA and NCAA rules may apply more severe penalties. Region XIX will impose the most severe allowable penalty.
