Wrestling
This operating Code is a joint code designed to represent the mechanics of the Mid-Atlantic District Wrestling tournament. (Regions 7,8,10,15,17,19,20,22,23)
Section A - DATE
The Mid-Atlantic District Tournament will be held prior to the National Wrestling Championship.
Section B - SITE
Any member of the district may put in a bid for the tournament at a regularly scheduled coaches meeting or in writing to the District Director.
Section C - ELIGIBILITY
- All member institutions in Regions 7,8,10,15,17,19,20,22,23 are eligible to send representatives to the Mid-Atlantic District Tournament.
- Weight class determination shall be made in accordance with the NCAA Rulebook and certification process.
- NJCAA eligibility rules must be followed for all participants and eligibility forms approved 10 days prior to the tournament date.

Any College fielding a club team must follow all NJCAA, NCAA, and Region XIX regulations specifically including (but not limited to) that you must file the NJCAA Club Team form, pay region dues, report game results to your repective service bureau, adhere to uniform rules as per the sport operating code, follow ejection policies for coaches and players, as well as reporting of these ejections, follow the home game supervision requirements, and use game umpires under contracted officiating agreements with Region XIX.
Section D - OFFICIALS
- Tournament officials must be selected from a national and/or state organization of approved collegiate officials by the Tournament Director. (At least three (3) officials are required for the District Tournament.)
- A tournament committee as recommended by the NCAA Rule Book shall be selected by the tournament host.
- Consideration in the selection of officials shall be given to ensure geographical representation.
- Officials will be evaluated by the coaches at the end of the tournament and recommendation for reassignment will be forwarded to the next tournament host. If 1/3 of the coaches object to an official, he will not be reassigned for the next tournament.
Section E - ENTRY FEES AND EXPENSES
- The expenses for the tournament will be divided among participating colleges and individual participants.
- Entry forms must be submitted at the seeding meeting.
Section F - RULES AND SCORING
- The NCAA rule book will be followed.
- Seeding criteria shall include:
- a) head to head competition - (all meetings)
b) Mid-Atlantic district record in that weight class (minimum three district matches for consideration)
c) overall record in the weight class
Note: Only six or seven minute matches count for seeding purposes.
If the above criteria fails to produce clear cut seeds, the following criteria shall be considered (not necessarily in any particular order).

overall record in any weight class
other tournament placement
common opponents
For seeding, each coach will have two (2) minutes to present his wrestlers credentials for seeding before discussion. After a five (5) minute discussion a binding vote shall be taken.
- Failure to make weight will disqualify the wrestler from the tournament.
- NJCAA individual season wrestling records and individual weigh in documents must be available at the seeding meeting. If unavailable, a wrestler will not be seeded
- The Mid-Atlantic District tournament shall be conducted in one day on two mats, as follows:
Saturday 7pm Seeding meeting
Sunday - 8am Weigh in
(scale closes at 8:30am)
10am - Opening round
Remaining rounds in accordance with NCAA rules.
Section G - AWARDS (DISTRICT)
- An outstanding wrestler award will be given. The recipient must be a champion. The award will be determined by ballot at the conclusion of the 285lb bout as follows:
- a. Each college will receive a ballot from the Tournament Director.
b. Each college will vote for two wrestlers, first choice will receive 2 points, second choice will receive 1 point.
c. The ballot must be signed by the coach who did the voting.
d. In the event of a tie – duplicate awards will be given.
Section H - AWARDS (REGION)
- Champions from Region XIX will be designated All-Region.
Section I - REGULAR SEASON PROCEDURES
- Weigh-ins will occur one (1) hour before the start of the match.
- A random draw will be held to determine which weight class will start the match.
- The NJCAA Code of Conduct is in effect throughout the season.
Section J - NATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- If participation numbers warrant two qualifiers for the National Championship, a “true second” will be determined by wrestle off. The loser of the championship match must wrestle the 3rd place finisher if they had not wrestled earlier in the tournament. Team points will not be awarded - but conduct violations assessed.
- To arrive at the one/ten wild card entries, these are in effect:
- a) Returning place winner. If more than one, highest placement. b) Returning National Qualifier.
c) Placement at tournaments during the season.
d) Common opponents.
e) Overall Junior College record. Must be at least .500.
f) Overall total record. Must be at least .500.
*Extenuating circumstances:
- Death in the family
- Injury
- Illness - Each participating coach must certify at the close of the Mid-Atlantic District those participants who qualify for participation in the National Tournament.
Section K - TOBACCO PRODUCTS
The use of tobacco products by any coach, player, official or other individual involved in the conducting of any NJCAA sanctioned or sponsored regular season or post season play, is prohibited within the confines of the playing area. Any individual not in compliance shall be disqualified from further participation in that contest or event.
Section L - COACH’S EJECTION
If a coach is ejected from a contest involving any member of the Region XIX and there is no approved Board of Trustees representative designated by the Athletic Director present, the contest is terminated at that point and forfeited to the opponent. If a coach is ejected for any reason, that coach shall sit out the next scheduled contest. Should the ejection occur in the last match of the season, the coach must sit out the first scheduled match of the following season. In the event of any player/coach ejection, an ejection report must be filed with the Region Director.
Section M - ATHLETE’S EJECTION
An athlete in any contest involving a Region XIX member college who is ejected shall not be allowed to participate in the next played contest as determined by the schedule of that institution. If this ejection occurs in the last contest of a given season, the suspension shall be in effect the first regular contest of the player’s next season. In the event of any player/coach ejection, an ejection report must be filed with the Region Director.
Section N - FIGHTING STATEMENT
An athlete in any contest involving a Region XIX College who is ejected for violent conduct or fighting shall not be allowed to participate in the next two contests as determined by the schedule of that institution. If the ejection occurs in the last contest of a given season, the suspension shall be in effect the first two regular season contests of the player’s next season. In the event of any player/coach ejection, an ejection report must be filed with the Region Director.
