Garden State Athletic Conference - Volleyball
Section I - Method of Regular Season Play
A.) Intraconference play between institutions shall be on a Home and Home arrangement.
B.) The best of five (5) games shall constitute a match (triangulars and quadrangulars shall be the best of three (3) games).
Section II - Rules
A.) NCAA rules shall apply.
B.) All matches shall be played to thirty (30) points rally scoring winning by two (2). If all matches are tied, the deciding match shall be to fifteen (15) points, win by two (2).
C.) The host institution shall provide qualified personnel to call the lines.
Section III - Regulations and Procedures
A.) The host institution shall provide for all contests:
1. Two (2) certified officials of an accredited volleyball officials association. The recognized organizations shall be the USAVB and PAVO. Officials shall be National or State ranked.
B.) It is recommended where possible, the host institution shall provide for all contests:
1. Three (3) official game volleyballs for all conference matches.
2. Where possible, the visiting team shall be given at least thirty (30) minutes of a warm-up period prior to the start of the match. Twelve (12) minutes shall be given for general warm-up and eighteen (18) minutes (4-4, 5-5) of an official warm-up period to be shared by both teams.
3. If a team arrives late for a contest, but has notified the host institution of this, it shall be allowed at least a 10-minute warm-up period prior to the start of competition. See section 2(d) under G.S.A.C. by-laws pertaining to forfeits.
4. The home team shall provide the visiting team at least six (6) practice balls similar to that of the game ball.
Section IV - Conference Championship
A.) The host institution for conference tournament play shall provide two (2) certified officials to call the lines for all matchers.
B.) A plaque will be given to the team with the best won/lost record during double round robin play against member colleges.
C.) In case of any ties, multiple championship plaques will be awarded.
Section V - All-Conference Team
A.) Certificates will be given for first and second teams where 5 or more teams exist. If there are less than 5 teams, only first team certificates will be awarded.
B.) The Chairperson of the Volleyball Committee will act as Chairperson of the Selection Committee.
C.) All competing institutions will select the top three (3) players from their team and submit names, year in college and other pertinent statistics and data to the Volleyball Committee Chairperson. (Date to be announced).
D.) The Chairperson will then devise a master list to be redistributed to all member institutions.
E.) From this list, each coach will select the top twelve players and list them accordingly. Each player will be awarded a point value (12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, etc.).
F.) Coaches will not vote for their own players. Colleges not voting by the appointed deadline will have their players dropped from consideration for the All-G.S.A.C. team.
G.) Those six (6) players receiving the highest point total will be named to the first team, the next six (6) will be named to the second team.
H.) If any ties in the balloting occur, all ties will receive certificates indicating the place of their selection.
Section VI - Coach of the Year
The Coach of the winning GSAC team will be named GSAC Coach of the Year. The Assistant Coaches of the winning team will be named GSAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
Section VII - Coach’s Ejection Statement
If a coach is ejected from a contest involving any member of the Garden State Athletic Conference and there is no approved Board of Trustees representative designated by the Athletic Director present, the game is terminated and forfeited at that point. If a coach is ejected for any reason, the coach must sit the next game. Should the ejection occur in the final game of a season or playoff, the coach would have to sit out the first game of the following season.
Section VIII - Athlete’s Ejection Statement
An athlete in any GSAC contest who is ejected for any reason must sit the next game. An ejection for fighting/violent conduct carries a two game suspension. If the ejection occurs in the last game(s) of the season and or playoff game, the suspension will carry forward into the following season of eligibility used in this sport.
